Hey, have you been reading the new Secret Voice comics over on Study Group? There’s a bunch of new pages no one has ever seen before. If you had the print version of SV, you already see some differences. I don’t know. It’s been fun so far.

“All creativity is magic. Comics are a good medium to work in because they are disposable but very important. Stupid but sharp, everywhere and in one place. Moving and still. Art but worthless. Comics are magic, because they are escaping everything, very powerful.”

Now this is a book of nursery rhymes for me! First Second books has assembled a drool-worthy lineup of cartoonists to interpret classic nursery rhymes in comic form. If the previews are any sign, the contributors didn’t disappoint either!
Above: Richard Thompson, Tony Millionaire, Laura Park, and Matt Forsythe.

Eric Vincent, Alien Fire #2
This could have easily ended up being one of the greatest american sci fi comics of all time, if only it had made it past issue #3. Also: awesome logo!

I did one of these SAVAGE DRAGON TWISTED FUNNIES strips. This is page one of 6- you have to check out the book when it comes out to see the rest. It only gets weirder from here! On a formal note, this is the first time I did a whole story using a 9 panel grid. Obviously, I’ve done a page or two here and there in this format, but working on a whole short story like this for the first time was an interesting experience.
I was a big fan of Erik Larsen’s as a kid, going back to his marvel work, and read SD for years, so it was pretty fun to get the chance to remix the world and characters in my own style. Longtime readers will see several old school SD characters pop up in my story. Big ups to Erik and SDTF editor Michel Fiffe for the chance to play in this sandbox!
